Point Pleasant

Last week at Taela's, her mom made us watch this new show: Point Pleasant. Sadly, the only thing about it that really captured my attention in that first episode (actually the show's second) was the fact that it starred Sam Page, who played Drew on American Dreams last year and I like the actor.

I mean, the show wasn't terrible, but not terribily interesting either. Basic premise is that the daughter of the devil comes to a small beach town where it was prophesized the last battle between good and evil would take place. It also has a strong soap-opera feel to it.

It wasn't terrible. The characters were kind of likeable. Christina, the daughter of the devil, though she doesn't know that, is kind of cool. I also like Jesse (the Sam Page) chachter, the lifeguard who saves Christina's life and turns out to be the town golden boy, complete with girlfriend.

The other characters are interesting as well. There seems to be a lot of secrets in the picture perfect Point Pleasant, thus the soap opera angle. There are a few Dawson's Creek-ish plot points. Like the fact that Jesse's girlfriend slept with his best friend, while Jesse is drawn to Christina. There's an adult triangle thingy as well, though that was of less interesting. Sexual angst is always more interesting when it involves teenagers, at least in my opinion.

I am kind of creeped out by the evil guy who keeps showing up to try and bring out the darkness in Christina, who it turns out has a chance of being saved and not being pure evil, surprise, surprise. The guy, played by Grant Show who used to be on Melrose Place for anyone who ever actually watched it, is probably the only really scary thing in the show. He gives me the creeps.

Anyway, I wasn't crazy about the show after my first attempt at watching it, but I resolved to give it a second chance. So I watched it tonight and was pleasantly surprised to find that there's a chance I might actually like this show. I'm not there yet, but I'm not far off either.

Tonight's episode expanded on a few things and gave enough information for me to come up with my own theories on things. Such as why Jesse would be so drawn to Christina in such a short time (this is only the third episode and they're already made out twice). Turns out she's not the only one with mysterious parentage. His mom also insists that he's special, different, saintlike.

I'm going to make a wild stab right now and say that his love is going to be the force that saves her from the darkness within and that's why they were so drawn together. Come on, it's totally obvious. After all, love always wins, right? Or at least on TV.

Still, despite the fact that I think it's kind of corny, I do find the show entertaining. I like the characters, the premise is good, even if the execution is a little shaky. Besides, at least it's amusing, so I guess I'll keep watching. For now.
