My Books to Watch For List

As I've mentioned before, the only really good thing to come out of being home all day, is that I have a lot more time to read. Thus, I've been getting into books again in a way I haven't been for several years. Total devotion and obsession--the way Taela is.

A great love of books has always been one of the strongest bonds between us. We need books as much as we need oxygen and when there's a book we really like then we can't get enough of it. We both have a list of the publish dates for all the books we really, really want.

Well, the book we have release dates for are parts of series' that we already read. We're always waiting eagerly for the next book in a beloved series. I mean, if you love a book, how can you not desperately want to read the newest installment?

My list isn't as long as Taela's, but every book on mine is on hers. What can I say, she's the one that got me into most of the series' I love, so of course she's as eager as I am to see what comes next.

My current list is pretty short and is as follows (listed by order of Publish date):

July 5th, 2005- Undead and Unappreciated by Mary Janice Davidson.
The next book in her Betsy Taylor series. The stories focus on a relunctant vampire queen and a very amusing cast of characters. The fact that this book's actually coming out in like a week, might keep me from going into book deprivation. I love this series, which I actually found before Taela did (a first). Funnier and more flippant than most of the other supernatural series I read--I mean the Queen of the Undead has a shoe fetish, it's very cute.

July 16, 2005- Harry Potter and the Halfblood Prince by J.K Rowling
Like a good portion of the rest of the planet, I'm a Harry Potter fanatic. I love these books and I've been counting the days to this one. Who isn't dying to know which character dies (my pick is Dumbledore) or who the Half-blood Prince is (since I have no clue--I'll say Seamus Finnigan)? I'm definitly eagerly awaiting this book, it's the most anticipated book on this list, easily.

October 25, 2005- Undead and Unreturnable by Mary Janice Davidson.
The fourth Betsy Taylor book. One thing you have to love about Mary Janice Davidson, unlike most of the other authors on this list--she doesn't take forever to write a book. I mean, two Betsy Taylor books in less than four months, how sweet is that? To be the fair, the books are shorter and fluffier than anything else on this list, but still really good and you don't have to wait forever! This one's even a Christmas book--A Christmas book about vampires, now doesn't that sound interesting?

Spring 2006- Broken by Kelley Armstrong
The newest Women of the Otherwold book! One of my newer obsessions, since I only discovered this series a few weeks ago. This new story focuses on Elena, the main character of the first two books, not by favourite of the three narators so far in the series, but I'm sure it'll still be wonderful. One big thing about it: it's set in Toronto! Yay!

June, 2006- Once Upon Stilettos by Shanna Swendson
The sequel to my newest obsession, Enchanted Inc. This book is stil a whole year away, unfortnuately, and I don't know how I will last that long. Especially since I'm dying to see how certain plots from the first book turn out. At least it has a title now and I'm sure by the time it actually comes out, I will be in full-obsessive mode, counting down the days and everything.

July, 2006- Danse Macrabre (tenative) by Laurell K. Hamilton
Anita Blake #13! Of course, this book is still more than a year away--but I am desperatly, eagerly looking forward to it. I love these books and I'm sure the next one will be amazing, even if it's come almost two years after the last one. Title confuses me, since I'd heard somewhere that "Danse Macrabre" was her original title for The Killing Dance, but she had to change it then, so I'm confused. Still, whatever the title is, I know I will love this book. More Anita; more vampires, werewolves and other creatures; more sex, blood and death; more angst and agression; and best of all, more Jean Claude! How could any girl resist?

There you go, my current "Books I'm Eagerly Awaiting" list. If you'll note, they're all fantasy/supernatural. Most of them contain magic, half of them contain vamprires and they all have that supernatural theme. What can I say, that's my current book taste (I think it comes from the fact that most of these were recommended by Taela).

The only unfortunate thing about this list, is that half of the books on it don't come out for another year. Sigh. But, on the upside, two of the remaining three are to be released in the next month, yay!

Books

So, what's new with me? Not a lot. I've been sleeping, watching my soaps, and reading. Actually, probably the one good thing about being off from work and having no life is that I've had time to do a lot more reading. And not just romance novels, but real books and good ones.

Taela's become my supplier, since she's a book addict and we have similar tastes. We don't like all the same things--she bigger on horror and sci-fi than I am and I'm more of a romantic, but there's a large middle ground, usually of the fantasy, supernatural, romantic variety.

One series of book that she leant me and I've become addicted to is the Women of the Otherworld series by Kelly Armstrong. It's an awesome series of books where werewolves, witches, and sorcerers are real and the dead still have lives. Since I'm doing a horrible job explaining, check out her website for information on the books plus lots of great extras.

Another book that Taela leant me that I loved and I do mean loved was Enchanted Inc. This is one of the best books I've read in a really long time. I loved everthing about it, even if the ending was a tiny bit of a letdown, but that was to be expected since there's a sequel coming (though not for a whole year--sigh).

Basically the book is about a very ordinary woman who discovers a very unordinary world and discoveres that sometiems being ordinary is the best thing to be. To learn more about the book go to the author's website.

I love to read and I love good books, so if you have any recommedations I'm always open for suggestions. Please?
